Laurier Sports Management Club (LSMC) focuses on providing an opportunity for students to develop and refine their management skills in a fun and competitive environment. These skills be tested and utilized in sports simulation leagues with fellow members by taking complete control of a sports franchise and managing a balance between their rosters and finances. LSMC also provides networking for students that share similar interest for the sports and management industry through fun social events!
Our league members will engage in a competitive and fun simulation against peers as they try to make their mock sports franchise gain the most success. In order to achieve this, they must negotiate player contracts, face trade offs between financial profits and team success, manage rosters, interact with other general managers and deal with many unexpected cases such as injuries as well as disgruntled players. These members obtain the best experience doing everything a real sports executive would be going through on a daily basis. Our leagues offer refinement of management skills in all aspects as managing some of the most valuable franchises in the world will pose the ultimate challenge in terms of communication, critical thinking, finance, negotiating, team work and more.
Sports management is truly an underrated yet extremely strong industry to pursue a career in. We intend on bringing more awareness to an industry that is extremely steady, yet growing everyday featuring some of the world's greatest athletes and more importantly, business managers. Once members are able to manage a multimillion dollar sports franchise, they should have ease managing tasks in career where risks and situations are not nearly as challenging.
These simulation leagues allow members to control their respective teams for 5 mock seasons in 5 months (one season per month). Each league will host a monthly Draft Night in each our leagues, where all general managers gather up in business attire to simulate the most busy day in sports. They will experience live drafting of young prospects and extremely busy interactions with other general managers as they strive towards giving their roster the best make over possible.
The club also hosts a Case Competition related to the sports management industry and also provide guest speaker events featuring real professionals from the the work place.
